Fredericksburg, VA, May 11, 2022 – Along with celebrating two years of service, the Mary Washington Weight Loss Center (MWWLC) is proud to announce their new three-month multidisciplinary medical weight loss program called, Moving Forward.

Denis Halmi, MD, Bariatric Surgeon and Medical Director for the Surgical Weight Loss program says, “Our team has worked extremely hard to find a variety of ways for healthy weight loss and are elated to offer Moving Forward which is a non-surgical program of transformation for patients needing to lose more than 50 pounds.” He continues, “Moving Forward will provide our patients the necessary tools and medical support to begin their weight loss journey and become their best self. “

The Moving Forward team includes a physician assistant, registered dietitian, and a behavioral health coach/exercise physiologist. The Moving Forward team will teach patients successful strategies on how to lose weight and keep it off. These strategies include education, meal planning, exercise routines, and behavior modification. The program includes monthly nutrition classes, weekly support group meetings, body composition analysis, bimonthly follow-up visits and optional meal replacements.

The MWWLC opened May 10, 2020, and within two years has almost doubled in staff, tripled in surgery days per month, has 295+ people active in WLC private Facebook group, offers two free information sessions per month and has bi-monthly multidisciplinary classes currently with 70 attendees. They also support a virtual weekly support group which is recognized by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).

Earlier this year, MWWLC was also instrumental in Mary Washington Hospital obtaining accreditation by MBSAQIP and has also participated with two Town Talks with Ted Schubel on B101.5 radio.
