What inspired you to start your independent retail business?

My wife and I lived in Charleston, SC and she wanted to move back to her hometown of Fredericksburg, VA. At the time I was helping a business in Charleston sell reclaimed and new flooring products. So when she said it’s time to head to Fredericksburg, I had to find a way to become an entrepreneur and we found it by opening up Fraser Wood Elements.

What are the biggest challenges you face as an independent retailer?

Our largest challenge we face is marketing.

How do you differentiate your store from larger chain competitors?

Our team at Fraser Wood Elements is what makes us different from the large box stores. We provide valuable education to our customers in planning for a custom piece of furniture, shelving, or mantel.

Can you share a recent success or win that you’ve celebrated in your business?

We just celebrated 10 years of business in the Fredericksburg area in May. We could not have done it without the support of our current and past team members and customers. We thank everyone for their support and encouragement along the way. We look forward to future collaborations with residential and commercial clients.

How do you engage with and give back to your local community?

We proudly support different local events through promotion and attendance. We love our community and are always looking to give back through different organizations such as the Gwyneth’s Gift Foundation and Fredericksburg County Public Schools. Here at Fraser Wood Elements, we are passionate about the planet. That’s why, for every mantel, shelf, or rainforest bowl purchased, we partner with One Tree Planted to plant a tree. Together, we are creating a positive impact for our environment and community.

How do you involve your business in local community events or initiatives?

We proudly support different local events through promotion and attendance. We participate in the First Friday initiative every month. We also make and provide many silent auction items for Non-Profit organizations such as; Fredericksburg SPCA, Big Brother Big Sisters, and the Fairy Godmother Project.

Have you formed any partnerships with other local businesses or organizations?

We are so proud of the many local businesses we have been able to partner with. Many of them are local restaurants such as; Rebellion, Benny’s Pizza, Fahrenheit 132, Umi and some commercial spaces such as; The Publisher Hotel, Matern Staffing, Thriveworks, The Goddard School and even as far as Colorado at the Peaks Hotel.

What are some unique products or services that your store offers?

At Fraser Wood Elements, we craft quality, solid wood products that will last for generations.

Be sure to shop their Christmas in July Sale from July 15th to the 31st- 15% off mantels and shelves
