FREDERICKSBURG, VA. —   Beginning this week through Sunday, March 2, 2025, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park will operate under a reduced winter schedule.

  • The Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center will remain open daily, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The visitor center will close Wednesdays in January, and the park store will remain open daily through the winter season.
  • The Chancellorsville Battlefield Visitor Center will be open Friday – Sunday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.  During the week of Thanksgiving, the visitor center will be open Monday – Wednesday. It will also open on holidays that occur on a Monday.
  • Chatham, Ellwood, and the Jackson Death Site will remain closed until the summer season resumes in April or May. The Chatham gate will remain open 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily for access to the parking area and grounds.

The park typically closes and reduces hours at these locations during the winter months. Chatham closed in September for a fire suppression installation project that is projected to be completed in early 2025. The site will remain closed until summer seasonal staff arrive in the spring.

This seasonal schedule balances the many missions of the park—preservation, public access, and education—and concentrates increased services during the busiest months of the year.

All park grounds remain open sunrise to sunset. Self-guided audio driving tours for all four battlefields and audio walking tours of various park locations are available for free at go.nps.gov/frsp-tours or via the official NPS App found on the Apple Store or Google Play. To learn more about these and other park offerings, including the Junior Ranger program visit www.nps.gov/frsp.

Winter closures can also occur in the case of inclement weather. Check the park alerts on the website at go.nps.gov/frsp-alerts for road and building updates.
